An 8-million-year-old bacteria was extracted from the oldest known ice on Earth and is now growing in a laboratory, the News Scientist reports.

Like Queen Elizabeth, researchers extracted the old bug from its frigidly cold glacier, resuscitated it, and are now watching it grow in a petri dish.
